Greetings from the Winelands Kitchen
Where has this year disappeared to? 2016 has been a difficult year for so many so it will be a relief to shift our focus forward to the upcoming December holidays and some delicious food to get us all into a festive mood. A portion of the food focus from now on will be on Christmas and holiday recipes to fill all those cookie jars for hungry tummies, starting off with my own traditional Christmas cake recipe up on the portal now. The Christmas Spirit
Tis the Season Ho! Ho! Ho!
The time of Advent is upon us... a time of consumerism, sun-bronzed bodies lazing around pools, sea sand and slip slops, piped Christmas carols and music in hot bustling shopping malls, a time of tinsel and glitter, mistletoe and kisses, crazy spending, busy restaurants, beaches and roads. How do YOU spend this time of year?

Boiled Fruit Christmas Cake
We never had a Christmas season without our mom's delicious fruit cake and it remains one of my favourites to this day. It is a lovely cake to have on hand in a cake tin and I tend to bake more than one at this time so that we can nibble on it throughout the whole year. It matures beautifully with a regular dose of rum or brandy. Why not try it for yourself?

Report-back: Oktoberfest 2016
The annual Paarl Deutscher Klub Oktoberfest was held on 29 Sept. 2016. When we arrived the entire area was without electricity but that soon changed to shouts of hoorah when the lights came on and the fridge motors started humming, cooling down the beers! There was a great buzz with fabulous live music to accompany the traditional German culinary fare and beers. Were you there?
